Pauwels, Nora: MOONLIGHT
In 2019, I was in El Salvador and happened to witness the “Blood Moon” lunar eclipse. As I was experiencing this
eclipse, I thought about the aspect of the shared experience of this kind of natural phenomena. The eclipse is a
unique event that transcends culture, language, nation states and location.
I create the images by drawing on plexiglass with carborundum and gel medium. When this “drawing” is dry, I can ink up the plate and run through my press. The effect is luminous and ephemeral, a build up of layers and media, much like the passing of the eclipse through the night sky.
