Deeg, Daniela / Lollis, Cynthia: Fractures / Brüche Fractures/Brüche is a carousel book with photographs that Lollis and Deeg took in London in 2012 and 2022. The drawings they made were inspired by designs painted on ceramic dinnerware by Vanessa Bell for the Omega Workshops. The text is from the novel, Mrs. Dalloway written by Bell’s sister, Virginia Woolf. The sisters were central figures in an informal group of artists, writers and philosophers known as the Bloomsbury Group. For a time, their home on Gordon Square was a hub for Bloomsbury gatherings. Decades later, Leonard and Virginia Woolf ran their publishing house, the Hogarth Press on neighboring Tavistock Square. Both squares are illustrated on the front and back covers. Flowing between them is a fragmented journey through the city made by the two artists on two different visits, perhaps depicting a route that Mrs. Dalloway took as she prepared for her party. This book offers a look at London as the artists experienced it, while the domestic interiors of the Bloomsbury sisters are wholly imagined.
