Rohrmus, Monika: Sport et Divertissement
In 1914, Erik Satie (1866-1925) was commissioned by the publisher Lucien Vogel to compose music for the picture cycle "Sports et Divertissement" by Charles Martin. Based on Martin's drawings, he composed 21 pieces of music as well as small poems, the text of which is written between the notes. However, they are neither to be sung nor recited, but for the piano player to read.
In 2014, a hundred years later, Monika Rohrmus saw a facsimile of Erik Satie's handwritten notes and decided to create new pictures to go with Satie's music. The pieces of music, their sound, as well as titles and Satie's texts are the inspiration for her graphics. Thus, concrete forms mostly reflect the music pieces in an ironic distance. A red triangle becomes a rifle, circles become bullets.
This album was published in March 2014 by edition offizin parvus berlin. It comprises 50 pages, including 21 graphics by Monika Rohrmus - linocut and pigment print - and 21 pieces of music by Erik Satie.
