Lange, Clemens Tobias: Kalumet
Four hermetic poems, the„prayer“ and five particular geographical maps of the earth: Oceania/Australia, Europe, North America, Africa, Atlanic: The "maps" are printed with white ink on black Sumipainted papers. Thousands of tiny shapes of aircrafts captured from „flightradar“ and calculated from flight informations create the positions of the aircrafts: each map captures one particular moment of a day and shows all civil
aircrafts in flight in that moment. In front of each map are two numbers: 1. how many aircafts are in flight 2. how many
languages are spoken in that area of the earth. The number of languages spoken seems like inversely proportional to the numbers of aicrafts.
The more we fly the more our languages disappear.
Where the money moves the variety of all cultural goods are
fainting: taste of food, fashion, daily life, thinking and even philosophy adapts to one kind, with access for everybody.
To turn it positive:
In Kalumet, images of nature on thin Nepal Paper for each
"chapter" give space for our imagination to remember the
beauty of our planet. So do Ungarettis poems for the culture of men.
