The nourishing, romantic, aesthetic, edifying, beneficial or, in whatever way, delightful aspect of plants is omnipresent.
In a selection of international contemporary artists' books, the exhibition highlights very different perspectives on plants.
There are poetic, chemical, conceptual, historical, emotional and other aspects: Stefan Gunnesch's formally complex and sensual exploration of Baudelaire's “Flowers of Evil” and his dialog with Hilma af Klint and her plant mythology in her notebooks. Sian Bowen and her research-based, poetic response to “Hortus Malabaricus”, Anja Harms' book about and around the birch, Gunter Keusen's lifelong preoccupation with elderberry and Käthe Wenzel with her UrbanInkBook, which was painted and printed with ink from micro-local weeds. All of these books are on display at the gallery in Vienna or can be viewed and purchased by clicking on each book here. Exhibition duration: June 3 - 27, 2025, MO - FR 11 am - 6 pm
