Lachenmeier, Rosa: Artist Talk: The Sound of New York Bridges
Talk on June 10, 2021
In this book, whose format corresponds to a record sleeve, Rosa Lachenmeier lines up her ar-tistically reworked LPs page by page. Contras-ted with them are photographs of New York bridges. Record and bridge technology develo-ped in parallel. Both bridges and music bring people together and can be read as metaphors for what connects. The consistent juxtaposition of bridge pictures and painted vinyl records opens up a wide field of associations. We drive over bridges, we move among them and listen to the music that is awakened in our head. Just as the bridges reveal their construction, the open spine makes the inner construction of the book visible. This book is dedicated to the musicians who enrich our everyday lives and the Swiss Othmar Amman, who not only built many bridges in New York from 1931 to 1964, but also shaped bridge technology and appearance
