Harms, Anja: Die Drude
The complementary contrast in the images and the gestural shapes of the black lines pick up the animatedness of the text. Two juxtaposed dots in different colors 'run through' the entire book, appearing like pairs of eyes in the abstract images. Dots, lines, and colors intertwine with the magical lines of poetry to create their own literary, pictorial art world.
Gertrud Kolmar, born in 1894, was murdered in Auschwitz in 1943. Almost all of her poems were published from her estate only after 1945. "Die Drude" is part of the cycle "Weibliches Bildnis", probably written around 1930.
