MacCallum, Marlene: track The images and events that form track have been gathered over the course of three years. Since 2023 I have been walking a public path 19 kms southwest of my home in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. This trail is bordered by two provincially significant wetlands, Hubbs Creek Marsh and Slab Creek Swamp. The wetlands are crucial to the watershed and are the home of multitudes of plant and animal life. I make this work out of a sense of wonder and trepidation. Our current national and provincial governments are perpetuating the harms of the past. Stewardship of this region was stolen from the original inhabitants, the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Wendat peoples. Responsible cohabitation was destroyed and replaced by irresponsible personal entitlement. This is another form of global pandemic, the virus of greed. And so, I offer up my fleeting experiences of a fragile and vulnerable environment. I share the experience of making my way to and through the wetlands. These places are filled with almost imperceptible interactions that occasionally align with human perception and reveal their subtle and outstanding beauty.
