Meador, Clifton: East India Trade
This book is created from images of the extensive collection of maritime artifacts at the Rijksmuseum—ship models and ship flags being emblems of the East India Trade that brought so much wealth to the Dutch republic of the 17th century. This fabulous wealth is reflected in the abundant material history present in the Rijksmuseum.
The hundreds of ship models in their collection—tiny versions of the real—evoke so much about the ideas of control and dominance that were at the heart of the VOC (Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnie).
